Menosgada was the name of the Celtic settlement on the Staffelberg above the Upper Main Valley. The “curse of the north” that the bard sings about were the Germans advancing in the migration of peoples from Gotland and from the Baltic Sea coast. The inhabitants of the high-altitude Staffelberg settlement and all their people fled before them as far as Gaul in present-day France.
