As many as 5,294 French officers and soldiers are buried here in a mass grave, the vast majority of them victims of the German attack on the Kemmelberg in April 1918. Only 57 of them could be identified.

UNDERSTOOD RESTING PLACE
Worth a visit out of respect for the more than 5000 French fallen. They have fought against the usurper. At the entrance to the hilltop, look and you will see the Angel looking down
and watches over the peace of mind of the many young fallen soldiers.
Yet another place to reflect.
Information boards at the entrance provide more information.

At the bottom of the western flank of the Kemmelberg is a French cemetery. This cemetery consists of 4 mass graves in which 5294 French soldiers rest. Only 57 of them have been identified. Their names can be found on the central obelisk. This memorial commemorates the French presence during WWI and commemorates the many French losses during the Battle of the Kemmelberg in 1918. From this point you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view.
