The very small chapel, which was built here above due to the pilgrimage between Holzgau and Oberstdorf, has been standing since the 17th century. She was, however, repeatedly torn by avalanches into the valley and had to be rebuilt several times. The small chapel was already used as a waypoint for the pilgrims from bygone days, later protecting the shepherds and today is a popular resting place for mountaineers on about half of the ascent to the Kemptner Hütte.
