Drumeție

The castle in Rothenbuch is the central starting point for many hiking trails. Highly recommended is the award-winning Christmas market around the castle with craft and regional stands, which transforms Rothenbuch into a fairytale place, especially when it snows.

The castle Rothenbuch goes in its early days to the early 14th century and in its present form to the Archbishop of Mainz and Elector Daniel Brendel of Homburg, who had the existing building rebuilt in the second half of the 16th century to a moated castle. The required water came from the source of the port northeast of the plant. Under Mainz rule Rothenbuch became an office, which exercised the territorial rule in the Spessart and whose administration resided in the castle.
Today the Rothenbuch Castle is operated by the French group Châteauform as a conference hotel and center.

Located in the middle of the Spessart and on Spessartweg 1, one should not miss to stock up on provisions in Rothenbuch for the onward journey to Lohr. If you still have enough time, you can visit the castle from the 14th century. There is a restaurant and hotel in the castle, but these belong to the upper class (schloss-rothenbuch.de).
