Left Lippe and right channel is really very beautiful in terms of landscape and wildlife. From the dike you can see both bodies of water and 2 at the same time is very rare. Great to enjoy and compare. The one straight and industrial and the other a bit winding. Really impressive.

Steep down and steep up again. Muscle strength is required here. The trail is quite narrow and the pace should be adjusted.

The Mitteldamm offers a variety of routes suitable for both cycling and walking. While the main embankment provides a straightforward path, you can also explore the adjacent "Lippeauen" Nature Reserve for a different experience. Many visitors enjoy creating loop routes that incorporate sections along the canal path and the Lippe River, often including the Lippe Weir in Werne. The area is also part of the longer Roman-Lippe Route for those interested in historical exploration.

What is the typical terrain and difficulty level of the Mitteldamm trail?

The trail is generally considered intermediate. Much of the surface is paved, making it accessible for many. Absolutely. The primary highlight is the unique vantage point from the dike itself, allowing you to simultaneously observe the winding, natural Lippe River and the straight, industrial Datteln-Hamm Canal. Keep an eye out for the modern, elegantly designed bridges over both waterways. The "Lippeauen" Nature Reserve, directly below the canal, is also a significant natural feature known for its diverse wildlife and accessible paths.

Is the Mitteldamm Between Lippe and Canal suitable for families with children?

Yes, many parts of the Mitteldamm are family-friendly, especially the paved sections suitable for cycling and leisurely walks. Can I bring my dog to the Mitteldamm trail?
