The Hohe Buche, a mountain on the edge of the Rhine Valley, is of volcanic origin and consists of hard basalt rock. The Romans used this rock as a building material more than 2,000 years ago. At the old quarry on top of the ridge you can still see the traces of the processing tools. Information boards explain how the stones were only broken with physical strength.
