St Peter’s is a stunning Grade I-listed church in the heart of Petersfield. While the church has its origins in the Norman period, the north and south aisles were added in the 12th century and the tower was built during the 14th century. These days, you will find the church to be very picturesque with a peaceful atmosphere.

It is believed that the first church on this site was built before the establishment of Petersfield as a town. It was possibly founded by Queen Matilda, wife of William the Conqueror, who owned the Manor of Mapledurham (Mapledresham) for some years but died shortly before the Domesday survey of 1086.

The ancient church, a Grade I listed building, is located in the centre of the town, on the south side of the Square. The architect Nikolaus Pevsner described it as "one of the most interesting churches in Hampshire".
