Construction began in December 2000. On August 16, 2001, the first three sections (Knuffingen, Central Germany and Austria) went into operation. Since then, new areas have been added (most recently South America). Today, the miniature wonderland is the largest model railway system in the world. At the same time, "Knuffingen Airport" is the largest model airport in the world.
