The Leibniz Temple in the Georgengarten is a small, open-sided sandstone pavilion. Twelve Ionic columns support a shallow dome, above which is the dedication "Genio Leibnitii" (To the Genius of Leibniz). It was built between 1787 and 1790 according to a design by Johann Daniel Ramberg and is one of the earliest public monuments in Hanover dedicated not to a ruler, but to a scholar – Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. The temple originally stood at what is now Waterlooplatz; it was only moved to the Georgengarten in 1936. A bust of Leibniz stands in its center.

The open circular temple with 12 ionic columns was built near today's Waterlooplatz at the end of the 18th century and moved to the Georgengarten in 1934/35. This spot on the small peninsula, with its reflections in the pond, looks as if it was created especially for the temple.
