    Unul dintre cele mai mari monumente culturale tehnice ale Evului Mediu timpuriu: Fossa Carolina (Canalul lui Carol cel Mare). Carol cel Mare a dispus excavarea aici, în jurul anului 793, a unui canal lung de aproximativ 3.000 de metri, pentru a putea călători confortabil cu navele spre sud-estul imperiului său. O suprafață de apă lungă de 500 de metri, încă existentă astăzi, și terasamente adiacente atestă prima încercare de a conecta Rinul, Marea și Dunărea printr-o cale navigabilă.
