From 1780 onwards, Prince Johann Georg (1748–1811) had Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff build a small classical country house in a floodplain forest north of the then urban development of Dessau. With the Elbe Pavilion and the artificial ruins of "Wallwitzburg", two points were created that allowed a wide view over the garden landscape along the Elbe.
