Alt: 446m: Króksfoss is the fourteenth major waterfall that you can see if you walk along the path upstream from Skógafoss. After passing Kæfufoss there is a long stretch of path where no waterfalls are immediately visible, as the slope decreases slightly and the path moves away from the river - although there are a few smaller waterfalls, including the interesting Gluggafoss. However, Króksfoss makes itself known in a very bombastic manner, drawing attention to its thunderous form with a huge cloud of mist that can be seen emerging from the gorge more than a kilometer away. The river here is remarkably reminiscent of a jet engine as it explodes 140 feet (44 meters) deep into a narrow gorge, stretching to a width of about 80 feet (25 meters) wide. However, the gorge is quite narrow, and as the trail approaches the falls, only about half of the falls can be seen without tiptoeing down narrower and narrower steps in the side of the cliff.
