"The Park of Three Cultures presents the turbulent history of the Modlin fortification based on the cultures of the French, Russian and Polish nations, which had the greatest impact on its over two hundred years of history and unique architecture, creating the cultural heritage of the Modlin Fortress of European importance.

Walking around the Park, we can experience the intertwining of these cultures. The main park avenues are named after them. Additionally, next to each of them there are boards informing about the influence of a given culture on the fate of the Modlin Fortress.

    History

The park was founded by Russians at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries or in the early 20th century on a battle slope artificially created in Napoleonic times. There may have been mining galleries preserved under the slope in several places, to which there is no access now. The park, located in the central part of the Modlin Fortress, was conceptually connected with the neighboring tsarist blocks and the officers' casino. After regaining independence, it was tidied up and named after Romuald Traugutt. At that time, it reached as far as the Narew River - its culmination was the viaduct at the Ostrołęka Gate connected by stairs to the swimming marina.

In the issue of August 15, 1923, the correspondent of the "Polska Zbrojna" magazine wrote that on August 5 of that year [on the 59th anniversary of Traugutt's execution for participating in the January Uprising] there was a ceremonial opening and consecration of the park, which "was finished and brought to order thanks to the efforts of the fortress commander, Colonel. [Edward] Malevich.”

The current area of the park was formed after World War II. Already without a name, it stretched between the casino and the tsarist blocks. The layout of the park avenues was then transformed, asphalt and small architecture were introduced, including a band shell and elements symbolizing the units stationed in the fortress (stone obelisks).

The name Park of Three Cultures has been operating since 2014 and refers to the three cultures that had the greatest impact on the development of the Modlin Fortress. Thanks to the efforts of the authorities of Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, the park was revitalized based on the historical layout of park avenues, referring to its glory days. The revitalized space has become the center of many cultural events addressed to residents and tourists.
