    Three Pillars is the name of the object planned by Karin van der Molen (Netherlands) for the Kirrweiler art trail. The 3 columns were made from stacked wine barrels and covered with blue and white porcelain. The wine barrels represent an initial artistic response to the location, as the residents of Kirrweiler are called upon to provide the porcelain. This creates another connection to Kirrweiler and an answer to the question: What does this have to do with us? By sticking the porcelain on it, a rough mosaic is created and the impression is as if “mushrooms are growing over the barrels”. Growth in all its aspects is a recurring theme in Karin van der Molen's work:
    How nature grows, how growth can get out of hand, how one person's growth either hinders or stimulates another's growth. The artist originally wanted to place the columns in the lake. The reflection would have made them appear even larger.
