The herbal nature trail on these heights has been around since 1996. Apart from the humming of bees and the chirping of birds, you hardly hear anything else as you hike along the approximately 9.9 km long path through the Thuringian Slate Mountains. While there were around 50 to 60 herbs back then, there are now almost 90 herbs that have reclaimed their location.
The special thing about the herbal trail is the arrangement of the herbs. Nothing was artificially planted here, but small signs were placed along the path next to the herbs. Since 2015, the path has been referred to as a digital herb trail because you can easily identify the herbs using the QR code on the signs on your smartphone and get all the important information about them and their effects.
