If you're looking for a charming and historic place to visit in Scotland, you might want to check out St Cyrus Parish Church at St Cyrus, a village in the far south of Aberdeenshire. The church dates from 1787 but was heavily remodelled around 1870, adding a spire that makes it a conspicuous landmark for mariners. The church is situated on an eminence 250 feet above the level of the sea, offering a splendid view of the coast and the St Cyrus National Nature Reserve, which is home to over 300 plant species and 70 bird species. The church also has a rich history, as it replaced the medieval parish church of Ecclesgreig, which stood on the shore until 1632 and is now used as a burial vault for the Porteous family. You can still see the ruins of the old church and the manse, which dates from the early 18th century. St Cyrus Parish Church is a place where you can enjoy the beauty of nature, the heritage of Scotland, and the spirit of a saint who lived in retirement on the nearby lands of Criggie.
