    The entire round with all the great views of the former quarry. As well as parts of the Neandertal trail Endeckerschleife Schlupkothen quarry.

    As early as 1892, two small fractures in the area of the later Schlupkothens fracture were shown on the topographic map. The first is at the height near Kocherscheidt, the second, probably the former quarry of Wilhelm Meiner, civil engineering contractor from Wülfrath, in the valley near the hamlet of Schlupkothen. The ridge between the two fractures is used for agriculture. In 1896, August Thyssen acquired the local Kocherscheidt estate and its land with the intention of setting up his own limestone quarry. At the same time, an application is being made for a rail connection to the Niederbergbahn. The first deliveries were made from the quarry, now called Schlupkothen, as early as 1899. The aim is to achieve economic independence from the “Rheinisch-Westfälische Kalksteinwerke Dornap” (RWK), which had achieved a monopoly-like position around 1880. Thyssen can thus reduce the purchase of lime via RWK by half. This first August Thyssen quarry is part of an overall strategy that aims to take over the self-sufficiency of the entire West Rhine smelting sites. Since the achievable tonnage in the Schlupkothen quarry alone was not sufficient, the Rohdenhaus and Prangenhaus quarries near Flandersbach were founded in 1904.
