A special building in the west of Freckleben's upper village is the St. Stephen's Church. The building dates back to the Romanesque period and was extended in a peculiar way in 1594. Another was built at right angles to the existing nave because there was no more space at the front and back due to the terrain. The material was probably used from the demolished church of St. Moritz, which was on the other side of the Wipper. The church was thus redesigned into a corner church, of which there are only a handful of other examples in Germany. During renovation work in 1855, the foundation walls between the nave and the porch were found on the floor and pointed-arch windows were bricked up in the walls, but they were plastered again.
