As early as 1346, a church in Meuselwitz was first mentioned in the records of the diocese of Meissen. It tells us that this church belonged to the archpriest chair of Reichenbach. The probable appearance of this Romanesque-style church, which is very similar to today's church in Arnsdorf, is shown on a diorama (sticker) owned by the municipality.

A document from 1238 mentions that the Sankt Marienthal monastery bought the three estates Muslawitz (Meuselwitz), Gorch and Parode for 230 marks (thaler).

The place and its church were under the patronage of this monastery until 1866. Associated with the patronage were rights and duties. The rights consisted of protection and maintenance services, including what concerned the building of the church and the alimony of the pastor. The duties included annual taxes from the harvest yields or from financial yields, as well as manual, tension and military services.
