With an area of 23 hectares, the Huys te Warmont estate is part of the National Park Hollandse Duinen. The castle-like building Huys te Warmont is located on this estate. It originally comes from the Middle Ages, although it is believed to have been dated 1303. The oldest known mention of Huys te Warmont dates back to 1359. At that time the castle was referred to as Jacob van den Woude's large farmstead. Research has shown that the left tower is probably a remnant of a medieval keep. Today's design, however, corresponds more closely to a "country house" from the late 18th century.
The owners were originally the lords of Warmond until 1525. During this period the castle was destroyed twice. The castle later passed into the hands of the Van Duvenvoorde family, where it was set on fire by the Spaniards in 1574. In recent years, the castle has changed hands several times. Then it went first to the municipality of Warmond and then to the Zuid-Hollands Landschap. From 1961 - 2018 private residents of the Stichting Huis te Warmond lived here. Since 2018 it has belonged to the Hendrick de Keyser association and is open to the public.
On the old estate there are yew trees and bald cypresses and old oak avenues. Zuid-Hollands Landschap ensures that the historical character is preserved and trims trees, shrubs and plants so that the magnificent avenues remain visible.
