    The name “Halve Maan” refers to Diest’s military past. As a fortified city, the Halve Maan was part of the 19th-century defensive belt around Diest, which was supposed to protect the city from a possible invasion from the Netherlands.       De Halve Maan in Diest is a provincial domain that is known to many for its open-air swimming pool with sandy beach in the summer.
