On the way further towards the Schweizerhaus, a raised marble vase can be seen on the left hand side on a small island in the Louisen pond. It was installed there in 1805 in memory of two princesses who died too early: Louise (1779-1801) and Helena Paulowna (1784-1803). Louise, a daughter of Duke Friedrich Franz I, was engaged to the Swedish King Gustav IV on November 1, 1795, and was thus the designated Queen of Sweden. But she had to find out from the newspaper that her fiancé had left in September 1796, under pressure from Tsarina Katharina the Elder.
