This connection has a special history in Georgsmarienhütte. In the middle of the 19th century, the rise of the local steelworks led to the settlement of Protestant workers in a purely Catholic area and in 1873 to the establishment of a Protestant community. Five years later, in 1878, the Luther Church was built according to plans by Konrad Wilhelm Hase with the help of the steelworks and soon became the seat of the superintendent, in the meantime the state superintendent. To this day, the neo-Gothic church building on Kirchstrasse with its beautiful church windows is the center of community life for the 2100 community members.
