The rock formation "Dürrer Wirt" is associated with the following legend:
A street inn is said to have once stood at this point or a little north at a junction. The landlord was stingy and regularly cheated on his guests by sticking his left thumb into the vessel to be filled when pouring, thus saving beer. The inn has long since disappeared, but the landlord now has to "go around" as a punishment. You can sometimes see him ringing his prayers in the evenings, hanging around the rock and constantly reciting his personal saying "100 thumbs are also a measure".
A "poor soul" marterl is attached to the east wall of the rock group. The reason for this is unfortunately not passed down.
The name "Dürrer Wirt" is derived from the former Amberg town caretaker Otto Schmidt (+) from "dürre Wörth". 270 years ago the Erlheimer Bach, which flowed here at that time, still carried water and made a kink. A sandbank with rubble (= Wörth) was created here. After the brook disappeared, the Wörth became "arid", i. H. without water.
