    Traidendorf Castle

Traidendorf Castle is a three-storey gable roof building with plaster structures. It has a stone portal with a statue of Mary and two wings with gabled roofs on the sides with plaster structures, the year 1684 is attached to them.
The Hofmark Traidendorf was owned by the Wittelsbach family. In 1387 Philipp Reich is named as a member of the Amberg-Sulzbach hammer guild with the Hammer zu Dreylendorf. In 1512, Hans Walrab the Elder von Traidendorf is mentioned as a caretaker at Kallmünz Castle.
In the 16th century, the Bertelshofener are mentioned as the owners of Traidendorf.
In 1655, Karl Siegmund von Tänzl von Tratzberg, electoral chamberlain, court war councilor, caretaker at Frohnstein and Kastner at Laaber, acquired the Hofmark on the Traidendorf marriage. Traidendorf was sold by them in 1733.
The Traidendorfer Hofmarksherren had the right to search the underground for ores and to mine them. It is well known that the area around Kallmünz is rich in ores, as evidenced by the field names "Erzberg" between Traidendorf and Rohrdorf. In 1826, the citizen of Kallmünz, Johann Stengl, applied for the opening of an ore mine, which was also approved by the Amberg Mining Authority. A barn for cleaning the ore was built on the site of the Hofmark Castle.
In 1854, Heinrich Weydelin, merchant and manufacturer from Nuremberg and landowner from Traidendorf, applied for the conversion of the iron hammer into a glass loop. In 1936, the glass loop had 260 polishing blocks, employed about 20 workers, and ten women repaired the flaws in the glass with emery. Production stopped in 1938. The loop was equipped with turbines and is still used today to produce electricity.
The dilapidated castle was bought and renovated by Sonia Chaves at the end of the 20th century. After that, the castle was used as a conference venue. After another sale in 2018, the castle became the property and home ofLebensraum eG. People of different ages now live there in self-chosen neighborhoods.

In the 14th century, an iron hammer mill was built here, which shaped the region for centuries. In the 16th century, the castle belonged to the Lords of Bertelshofen, whose impressive gravestones can still be seen today at the parish church of St. Michael in Kallmünz.

In the mid-17th century, the castle passed into the possession of the Tänzl von Tratzberg family through marriage, who also built the nearby Dietldorf Castle. At that time, the lords of the manor even held the right to prospect for and mine ores in the surrounding area.
In the 19th century, the hammer mill was transformed into a glass grinding and polishing workshop, which operated until the early 20th century. The then owner of the castle and operator of the factory, Philipp Berlin, a mirror manufacturer from Fürth, was expropriated by the Nazis because of his Jewish ancestors and was forced to leave Germany with his family. *). After operations ceased, the hydroelectric power plant was modernized and continues to generate electricity today.

Since then, the Hammerschloss has gained an excellent reputation as a seminar and conference center, extending beyond the region. The legendary, regular Sunday brunches were particularly popular.

After decades of varied use, Lebensraum eG acquired the historic building in 2018. With the advisory and financial support of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation, the rooms were extensively restored and adapted to the new needs of the residents. Baroque pieced ceilings of outstanding quality were uncovered and now adorn the 12 partially newly built apartments in a property with a rich history and a new future.
