One of the most famous residents of Laubegast was Friederike Caroline Neuber, who became famous as the “mother of German drama”. She died in a Laubegast property in 1760 and was buried in the Leuben cemetery. Since 1776 this memorial has been commemorating the “Neuberin”.

The memorial stone by Friederike Caroline Neuber commemorates the actress and co-founder of the regular German drama theater, who spent the last months of her life in Dresden. She died in November 1760 in an outbuilding of the Volkshaus Laubegast that is no longer preserved. The former village inn of today's Volkshaus Laubegast was converted into a ballroom in 1889. Until 1945, as well as after the Second World War, concerts and dance events were held here regularly. The ballroom was renovated in the 1970s and lost most of its historic furnishings. The premises were still used for cinema screenings and as a discotheque. After a short period of closure after German reunification, the building was renovated in 1998 and reopened with a restaurant, a seat of the people's solidarity as well as various offices and apartments.
