About 2100 meters south of the village Großgörschen, between the villages Tornau and Werben runs a, from west to east extending terrain survey, the highest point, located approximately in the middle, 172 meters above sea level. This hill has been called Monarch Hill since the day of the Battle of Grossgörschen. In the course of the Battle of Großgörschen related to this hill on that day both the King of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm III. as well as the Emperor of Russia, Alexander I position and pursued from there the events of the fighting. This is at least for the time at the beginning of the battle, delivered around 11:30 clock. The battlefield was both in a northerly direction. Very close to the highest point, about 200 meters northeast, stood the Prussian guard units under Major General von Roeder, in front to the north. In contrast to the whereabouts of the crowned heads at Guldengossa on October 16, 1813, when the French Marshal Murat had approached the abode with a rider attack up to a few hundred yards, the monarchs south of Grossgörschen were unlikely to be in serious danger at any time. Already in 1815 at the foot of the Monarch Hill by the local population a tribute stone for Frederick William III. Built by Prussia, this was due to the declaration of loyalty of the population to the new rulers, since the region had been Saxon until the Congress of Vienna. He is complete with inscription until today preserved. On the 4th anniversary of the battle, in 1817, the Prussian king inaugurated a memorial for the fallen officers and soldiers of his units, the so-called Schinkel Pyramid, on today's Monarch hill. The inscription reads: "The fallen heroes gratefully honor King and Fatherland. They rest in peace. Großgörschen, May 2, 1813. "The pyramid stood there until the early 1980s, when it was removed because of significant corrosion damage. All that remained is preserved, the still existing pedestal of the monument with a new inscription. The Schinkel pyramid itself stands, rebuilt since 1985 in Großgörschen.
