A very nice place to completely relax in the middle of the forest. If you are attacked by a sudden rain shower, you can take shelter in the shelter.

The Drieboomkensberg pilgrimage site, dedicated to Our Lady of Fever, is situated on the highest peak of a group of undulating inland dunes that define the landscape. The place takes its name from the three large larch trees that stand on the hill. The surrounding area is rich in unspoiled natural beauty, and you'll still find quiet corners where heart and mind can find peace.

        Historical context:
The origins of the pilgrimage site lie in a tragic event on June 14, 1746, during the War of the Succession. A battle took place near Drieboomkensberg between English, Austrian, and Dutch armies on one side and the French on the other.

A seriously wounded English officer named Crombell, stricken with fever, promised to have a chapel built here if he recovered. Around 1750, a stone chapel was finally erected here. The chapel then dominated the entire area and became a center of ever-growing devotion. The sick and those seeking comfort found their way to the Drieboomkensberg and the Chapel of Our Lady of the Fever. They prayed for healing, relief, and solace.

On the night of November 9, 1800, the chapel was completely destroyed by a storm. During searches of the chapel's foundations in 1940, several pieces of the original statue of the Virgin Mary were discovered. The chapel's foundations were shallow, about three-quarters of a meter deep. The floor consisted of small red and blue paving stones, such as those still found in old Kempen farmhouses. The excavations also revealed that the chapel was approximately 3.67 meters wide and long, thus square in shape.
The chapel was never rebuilt, but was replaced around 1810 by a statue of the Virgin Mary hung from one of the three larch trees.

Over the years, four statues were lost due to various circumstances. One of them survived the fire at St. Martin's Church in 1915 because it was housed there for fear of vandalism. The current statue is the fifth in a row and was placed on a pedestal. The cross at the foot of the hill was erected in 1948 and was a gift from the then mayor of Oostmalle, Count Thierry de Renesse.
