This used to be one of my favorite routes because it was very idyllic and car-free. Unfortunately, as a “compensatory measure”, part of the asphalt surface was removed and replaced with gravel (“unsealed” 🙈), which has since no longer been ideal for racing bikes. But it can still be driven uphill with sufficiently thick tires.

The access to the hiking car park is shared with cars, of which there are more on the road on weekends. Then it gets crowded in places. After that, you have peace and quiet.

The gravel section in question isn't really that bad, depending on your tire width, although it's a bit unpleasant. The ground is compacted, but the loose stones are coarser and have sharp edges. At a 6% gradient, the climb is slow and a bit tiring.

The paved section has seen better days and is quite bumpy – but it's fine for the climb. You just won't be going as fast as usual.

I wouldn't want to go downhill here. Above 20 km/h, you'll want a mountain bike. The Ellbachstraße is much better suited for that.
