The Preußischer Velmerstot is the highest elevation in the Egge Mountains at 468 m above sea level; the neighbouring Lippischer Velmerstot is its smaller brother at 441 m. The Velmerstot therefore has two peaks. Both peaks were border areas in the past; this explains the names Preußischer Velmerstot and Lippischer Velmerstot. The Silberbachtal valley lies very close to the peaks. Here the Egge Mountains and the Teutoburg Forest merge into one another. In 2003 the Eggeturm was built on the Preußischer Velmerstot - a 17 m high observation tower. From the tower you have a fascinating panoramic view over the Egge, Teutoburg Forest and Weserbergland as far as the Sauerland. As both peaks were grazed for centuries, extensive mountain heath areas developed here. In addition to blueberries and heather, some birch and pine trees have also colonised the rugged sandstone cliffs. The Prussian Velmerstot was a military restricted area until 1994. Today both peaks are protected.
