A little highlight, well hidden in a natural forest:
Palsterkamp Castle is a former late medieval moated castle on the northeastern edge of Bad Rothenfelde in the Osnabrück district in Lower Saxony.
The first known owners of the castle were the lords of Steine zu Steinhausen. At the beginning of the 15th century it went to Johann von Buck. The castle Sassenberg was pledged to him by the bishopric of Münster. When the deposit was redeemed, he built Palsterkamp Castle. It is not certain whether there was a permanent house in its place.

Since the castle was built without the permission of the sovereign, the Drost of the Diocese of Osnabrück had it demolished in 1424. The castle was restored shortly afterwards as a rectangular moated castle with two towers. After the male line of the Buck auf Palsterkamp died out in 1445, violent inheritance disputes broke out in which the castle was taken twice. They only ended when the castle came to Johann von Nesselrode through marriage in 1456. The following owners were from Rennenberg, Loe zu Wissen, von Oye, von Oer and von Bylandt-Reydt. In 1780 the castle was given to King George III. sold by England and Hanover. In the following years it remained crown property and property of the respective sovereign until it finally came into private hands via the state of Lower Saxony in 2010.

The castle complex was demolished in the 1880s. The present mansion was built between 1786 and 1790 and was renovated in 1977.

The BUND has leased the approximately 12 hectare Palsterkamp natural forest. The area is now subject to the so-called "processional protection", i.e. plants and animals can develop freely without human intervention.

The small paths around the property are no longer as recorded in Komoot. The overgrown paths with many nettles are not suitable for cycling and sometimes end in nirvana. So better drive there over the street.
