The place first appeared in 1886 under the name Prescott Junction when the Central Arizona Railroad built a branch line from here to Prescott. After the company went bankrupt, the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fé Railroad took over the line and the branch was renamed in honor of the Seligman brothers, who made this branch leg financially possible. Seligman was a Wild West city until Route 66 opened and changed life in the city. In the 1970s, the city was bypassed by the interstate, but the small town didn't want to be left behind. Its residents, especially Angel Delgadillo, fought hard to get Route 66 back on the maps. For many, the section between Seligman and Kingman is the only remaining section of the legendary road. I can only say: Far from it. And if you think that the very kitschy Seligman embodies the spirit of the old street, you should really go to visit the rest of the part and get a lesson. Seligman does not take you back to the "good old days", but unfortunately has become very touristy commercial.
