The St. Petri Church is the oldest building in Garz.
Construction of the Gothic brick church, built on a foundation made of boulders, probably began around 1350. The church, which was completed around 1400, was first mentioned in a document in 1396. Initially it consisted of two bays and a sacristy. Additional yokes and a spire were added later. The latter was destroyed by a storm in the middle of the 17th century and replaced by the flat tower. The oldest building in Garz owes its current appearance to design changes in the mid-18th century.
The oldest piece of equipment in the church is a granite fountain with leaf-like decorations. It is said to have been a gift from Henry the Lion to the island of Rügen. Today's organ was built in 1914 by an organ builder from Stettin, largely retaining the pipe work of the organ from 1836. The altar dates from the late Middle Ages. His baroque essay and the pulpit were created at the beginning of the 18th century. Extensive renovation work was carried out on the church in 1992/93, and in 2003 it received three new bells.
