The Marienkirche is a Protestant church in Großenhain, which was built from 1746 to 1748 by the Dresden council carpenter Johann George Schmidt and the council mason Johann Gottfried Fehre on the site of a late Gothic hall church. “Of Schmidt's large church buildings, only the Großenhain Marienkirche has been preserved in its original state.” The sacred building is “one of the most original spatial creations of Saxon church art of the late Baroque”. It is the church of the parish Marienkirche in Großenhain and the ephoral church of the church district in Großenhain.

This church has remarkable architecture! It looks more like a concert hall with several tiers, boxes with windows and in the middle the pulpit and organ tower over the altar. It is said to have been built by the same architect and in a similar style as the Frauenkirche in Dresden.
