Halfway up the forests of the Briedel Switzerland hiking area lies the Hindenburglay lookout point. A small pavilion sits enthroned on a rocky outcrop that protrudes from the steep, wooded slope of the narrow Moselle bend at Zeller Hamm.

Only the narrow hiking trails provide access to this magnificent spot. We sit quietly in the shade of old oak trees and enjoy the view down to the Moselle flowing past, with its vine-covered steep slopes and the houses of Briedel nestled in the narrow valley, while a flag flutters gently in the breeze above us.

The pavilion was built in 1927 by the Eintracht Briedel men's choir and has been maintained ever since by the mixed choir. It serves as a shelter at the center of the hiking trails established in 1926. It was named Hindenburglay in memory of the great Reich Chancellor.

"The Hindenburglay is a vantage point in the middle of the forest area "Briedeler Schweiz". The certified circular hiking trail "Seitensprung" leads past here. A far-reaching view over the Moselle valley and the Zeller Hamm rewards the hiker for the steep ascent on the narrow path along the high slate rocks typical of the Moselle .
The pavilion, which stands on a rocky spur protruding from the slope of the Moselle and invites you to rest, was built in 1927 by the Briedel male choir (today a mixed choir)."

The naming was a tribute to the Reich President Paul v. Hindenburg.
"... of our aged national hero. So that the memory of our Feldmarkschall, the pride of the German nation, may never be forgotten.”
(Roman Siweljow, University of Koblenz-Landau, 2015)
