The Mönchsberg rises steeply above the surrounding city and at the top is one of Salzburg's greatest sights. The Hohensalzburg Fortress can be seen from far away and is a real tourist magnet as the largest completely preserved castle in Central Europe. You can climb up to the castle or use the fortress railway. The castle is open all year round and offers you an impressive insight into its history.
