The Isskogel can be reached quickly and easily from the mountain station of the Isskogelbahn and is therefore a suitable summit for families. From there, the view back into the valley is super beautiful. Another hike through the Krummbachtal can be added.

The ascent is not without. Mostly very busy. I was lucky with an afternoon rain shower and was alone at the summit. 🤓😅😉

The most straightforward path to Isskogel Summit is from the mountain station of the Isskogelbahn cable car. This route is generally considered relatively easy and suitable for families. For those seeking a more challenging experience, a circular hike connecting Isskogel with the Kreuzjoch summit (2,558 m) is available, traversing rocky terrain and a narrow ridge. Additionally, the "Kinderspielweg" Latschenalm offers an educational and playful route, ideal for families with younger children.

Many alpine trails in the region are dog-friendly, but specific rules may apply, especially regarding leashes. For the Isskogelbahn cable car, dogs are generally permitted, often for a small fee. What are the parking options for accessing the Isskogelbahn?

Ample parking is available at the base station of the Isskogelbahn in Gerlos. While the intro mentions ample parking, visitor tips suggest that the area can get very busy, especially on pleasant days. Arriving early in the morning, particularly during peak season, is recommended to secure a spot.

What makes the Isskogel area particularly family-friendly?

The Isskogel area is exceptionally family-friendly due to its accessible trails, especially the path from the Isskogelbahn mountain station to the summit. Near the mountain station, there are two wooden marble runs, each about 150 meters long, and climbing elements for children. The "Kinderspielweg" Latschenalm also provides an engaging route with educational elements and a playground, making it an ideal destination for families.

Are hiking permits required to access Isskogel Summit or its trails?
