A train station as beautiful as a fairytale castle.

The island train station in Uelzen, designed by the famous architect Hubert Stier, was put into operation in 1887. A century later, the listed Wilhelminian building had fallen into disrepair and had completely lost its former splendor.

As part of the EXPO 2000 World Exhibition, the specially founded association "Bahnhof 2000 Uelzen e.V." developed a concept that also envisaged the station being converted into an environmental and cultural station. The Austrian painter and architecture doctor Friedensreich Hundertwasser was brought in to do the artistic redesign. The building was rebuilt from 1998 to 2000 according to his specifications.

Today, the Hundertwasser train station is one of the ten most beautiful train stations in the world. Every year, thousands of people from all over the world visit the colorful train station and enjoy the golden balls, colorful mosaics, many colorful columns and dancing windows.

On the riverbed floor they experience melodies for their feet, marvel at the folds of the walls, get to know tree tenants and discover Hundertwasser's fantastic world.

One attraction in the Hanseatic city of Uelzen is the Hundertwasser train station. The world-famous artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser had the plan and idea to transform the old brick building into a colorful work of art. All shapes are rounded, imaginative and individually designed, just typical of Hundertwasser's art. Anyone visiting the Hanseatic city of Uelzen or passing through should visit the unusual and artistic train station. For me it is one of the most unusual train stations in Germany.
