History of the building: In 1852 the site was acquired by the Royal Hanover Military Administration. After the annexation of the Kingdom of Hanover by Prussia in 1866, construction work began in 1869. The infantry barracks were occupied in 1872 by the 2nd Hanover Infantry Regiment No. 77, which was disbanded in 1919. This was followed by units of the Reichswehr and the Wehrmacht. After the end of World War II, the barracks served as a refugee camp administered by the United Nations. British units were stationed here from 1956 to 1992, including the 94th Locating Regiment from 1956 to 1984 and the 14th Signal Regiment of the Royal Signals from 1984 to 1992.
