Wonderful cycle paths lead through the Müritz National Park; you can drive here completely relaxed and let nature work its magic on you. There are also rest areas and a great place to stop for a break.

With an area of over 320 square kilometers, the Müritz National Park, founded in 1990, is the largest terrestrial national park in Germany, is almost three quarters covered by forest and has around 100 lakes and many smaller still bodies of water. The national park is named after the Müritz, Germany's largest inland lake.

The national park consists of the sub-areas Müritz and Serrahn. The larger sub-area Müritz extends southeast from Waren (Müritz) in the eastern hinterland of the Müritz to Neustrelitz in the east and Wesenberg in the south. The Serrahn sub-area in the east of the national park forms the transition from the Mecklenburg Lake District to the Feldberg Lake District. It is surrounded by the Feldberg Lake District Nature Park.

The gently undulating landscape of the national park was shaped by the Vistula Ice Age. Here you will encounter a huge, species-rich flora and fauna, you can observe white-tailed eagles and ospreys, black storks and cranes as well as a wide variety of duck species, reed warblers and bitterns. During the migration season, numerous waders also stay here. Rare grass species and juniper stands are of botanical interest.

The national park is fully developed with hiking and biking trails, rest areas, lookout towers and observation posts. A national park bus line including bicycle transport runs from Waren (Müritz) via Speck and Boek to Rechlin-Nord. The national park ticket is also available as a combined offer for bus and Müritz boat trip.
