At the Altmannsattel (2368 m) you can see two of the mountain lakes of the Alpstein at once, the Seealpsee and the Fählensee. For this you have to walk a bit towards Altmann at the signpost and you have the best view. And otherwise the view is simply gorgeous and the mountain massifs that are to be seen are very impressive. You can see up to the Hoher Kasten and in the other direction you can see the famous Churfirsten in front of the Glarus Alps and with a bit of luck you can see ibexes up here.

The ascent to the Altmannsattel is from the Rotsteinpass and the Fählenalp forth is however quite steep and a bit kraxelig. The path from Rotsteinpass to Altmannsattel is almost exclusively and well secured, the way to the Fählenalp in the upper part also, in the lower part no more.
