                  The bridge over the commercial port was built in 2006 (according to plans by Schlaich, Bergermann + Partner) and connects the old town and pedestrian zone of Leer with the newly developed area on the Nesse peninsula.
                  The bridge takes up the main traffic axes of both banks, creating a bridge with a bent floor plan. This gives pedestrians a clear view of the opposite bank. The new spreader bars, which keep the pedestrian area free of ropes, also contribute to this. The bridge is divided into three components. On the banks, the superstructure and mast are supported by a massive reinforced concrete abutment. The cable-supported superstructure is a slim steel composite construction, the middle folding section is a pure steel bridge. The middle section of the bridge can be opened hydraulically to a width of 14 m to allow large ships to pass through.
