        After the great fire of 1723, which also destroyed the town hall, a new council building was built on the same site just one year later. It served the Dillenburg town administration until 1930. Since Dillenburg initially lacked the appropriate premises for a long time, concerts and balls, theater performances and political discussion evenings were held in the town hall's assembly hall. Even the gymnastics club held its exercises here. Few offices were needed, because in 1909 only ten other people were part of the town administration besides the mayor; there were also two police officers and two night watchmen. Today, the city's tourist information office and the department for culture and sport are located in the Old Town Hall.
