Five groups of trees represented the cooperation between the five Nordic countries: beech (Denmark), birch (Sweden), fir (Norway), juniper (Finland) and mountain ash (Iceland). Skamlingsbanken was formed during the last ice age when a glacier cut through Lillebælt (the Little Belt), pushing a mighty wall of stones, pebbles and loamy sand in front of it. On the Skamling he left hills and ravines.
