    The butter market is the pulsating center of Saarburg. The Buttermarkt owes its nickname "Saarburg's Little Venice" to the view from the bridge "auf dem Graben" of the Leukbach and the rows of houses that still rest on mighty oak piles.

Another focal point of the elongated square is the building Am Markt 2, originally an inn, later a residential and commercial building, today a bank. This IS framed on the opposite side by the former electoral mill, today's “Amüseum” (municipal museum for traditional craft trades and guilds).
