The eastern part of the lake is reserved for active recreation and is available to two sailing clubs. A circular hiking trail equipped with benches was created on some of the existing routes, which also connects to the Baerler Busch path system. The western part of the lake is used for biotope and species protection in accordance with the specifications of the landscape plan. The aim here is to promote the undisturbed development of animals and plants through reduction. The “Petri Heil Repelen” fishing club maintains its club rooms on the north bank.

The Lohheidesee is a water area created by gravel removal on the city limits of Rheinberg and Moers (Wesel district).
