    The architectural flagship of this approximately 1,000-year-old city is the town hall. It is a half-timbered building, probably built in 1533. Between 1582 and 1589, a seven-axis, plastered brick stepped gable in the Weser Renaissance style was added to the facade facing Lange Straße. The individual tiers support Italian gables with palmette infill and ball ornamentation; the wall surface is structured by sandstone pilasters and horizontal cornices. In front of the facade rises a two-story bay window; the parapet reliefs depict the eight virtues and the coat of arms of Duke William of Celle. The simple portal on the market side displays the city's insignia held by an angel, bearing the year 1585, and the Brunswick lion coat of arms.

    The first town hall tower, with a bell, was erected in 1614. The tower took on its current form in 1778/79 and was renovated in 2012. In 1903, the historic town hall extension was built, matching the town hall gable and facing Lange Straße.
    Inside, there is a publicly accessible art gallery featuring Nienburg artists and Nienburg motifs.
