    It is an equestrian statue by the sculptor Anatole Celestino Calmels and was inaugurated on October 19 , 1866 . It is 10 meters high and weighs five tons of bronze. It is an image of Pedro IV of Portugal riding a horse at a trot, dressed in uniform, which was his usual attire. In his right hand he holds the Constitutional Charter of 1826 and in his left the reins of the horse.
