The current town hall was built on the east side of the market in 1846 with its defensive-looking north tower with battlements on the roof. It initially had a pointed helmet on the tower, but this was removed in 1899.[2] The building also housed the savings bank and the town hall cellar, so that the town hall was the social center of the city for a long time.[3] It is a listed building and has the registration number 094 90028 in the monument register.[4]
