In 1866, the stately town hall was built to a design by architect A.T. van Wijngaarden. He is the architect of many buildings in West Friesland with an eclectic architectural style. Wijngaarden is also the architect of the rectory in Nieuwe Niedorp and the teacher's residence in Winkel. It fits within the neoclassical architectural style because of the two-storey building mass, the symmetrical layout of the facade, the partly plastered facade, the window types and the plastered frames with profiling. Nieuwe Niedorp is a ribbon village located on a creek ridge and is oriented east-west. The ribbon village of Nieuwe Niedorp originated in the 13th century. The old ribbon is formed by the area Dorpsstraat/Schulpweg. On either side of this ribbon, there are mainly detached buildings of one, sometimes two storeys with a roof. On the south side of the Dorpsstraat the buildings are right on the road, on the north side the buildings are separated from the road by a wide verge with tree planting and a ditch. The village was given the name of the village of Oude Niedorp in 1415
